Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Steps Down: Andy Jassy Takes Over as CEO

In February 2021, Jeff Bezos announced that he would be stepping down as CEO of Amazon, the company he founded in 1994. Bezos remains the executive chairman of Amazon’s board of directors, but Andy Jassy has taken over as CEO. Jassy had previously been the CEO of Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud computing division.

Bezos’ decision to step down came as a surprise to many, but he stated that he wanted to focus more on his other ventures, including his space exploration company Blue Origin and The Washington Post, which he owns. Bezos also said that he believes Jassy is well-suited to take on the role of CEO and that he has his full confidence.

Jassy has been with Amazon since 1997 and played a key role in the development of Amazon Web Services, which has become a major source of revenue for the company. As CEO, he will be responsible for overseeing Amazon’s diverse business operations, including its e-commerce platform, cloud computing services, and numerous other ventures.
